What did you initially come in seeking help with? Please describe in some detail what injury or pain that prompted you to come in.
Initial injury was related to mild whiplash. I was having neck and shoulder pain that was hindering movement and my occupation as a yoga instructor. The condition began to spread down to my elbow and wrist were also affected. The pain and lack of mobility were not only affecting quality of life, but my job. Had to finally take action.
What benefits would you say you received from our sessions? What specifically improved? Initially pain increased, but a day or two after our first session, I began to feel some improvement in the ache and pain that had been plaguing me before our session, After a few more sessions range of motion began to improve as well. The initial discomfort was replaced by relief and improved movement. I continued to work with you on other issues that arose such as hip and ankle pain. Everytime I found our sessions to be enlightening and filled with relief from tightness, pain, and began to feel my body return to more normal mobility and health.
How would you describe the sessions you had? What was the experience like for you?
Most of my sessions vacillated between moments of extreme relief, moments of increased unpleasant sensation, and then complete ease and relaxation. The experiences were unlike any I have ever experienced with a massage therapist. The sessions were not only interactive, maintaining my own connection to what was happening with the muscles and tissues in my body, but informative as you had insights into potential habits that were not only hindering progress, but reinjuring the areas that were giving me problems. Using that information, I was able to continue encouraging my body to heal by reducing or eliminating the movements, or holding patterns I was unconsciously performing. You were direct, informative, encouraging, and compassionate in all our sessions.
How would you relate our sessions with some of the other things you have tried on your healing journey?
All my past experiences with massage therapy were in pursuit of "feel good", making me feel drowsy with light to medium pressure, and for goodness sake stay away from my calves! You showed me how important pressure with some discomfort (not gripping pain) is to encouraging our muscles, and connective tissues to heal. You also explained how a contraction that I couldn't feel in one part of my body could affect a seemingly unrelated part of my body. Other massage therapists have tried to use stronger pressure, but it always made me tense and angry which was not beneficial in any way to my physical or mental health.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
What you offer is more than just a massage, you offer education and an experience to heal unlike anything I have encountered before. Thank you.
