The solution to your pain can be summed up in one short sentence: Get blood into contracted, adhered and ischemic tissue and form new habits by building awareness.

That’s it. Easier said then done but it serves us well to think of it in terms of being this easy. It’s called “Life Blood” for a very good reason. Muscle and fascia are like a sponge and when it gets really tight in contraction the liquid, the blood, is all squeezed out. Around every chronic pain area you will notice that it is swollen. The swelling is not tissue but actually fluid. The fluid is the blood that should be in the muscle and fascia but is squeezed out and pooled around it due to contraction.

Man that looks like it feels good right? Having a mobile free moving spine is essential to well being.

How do we get life blood into ischemic and often very painful muscles and tissue?

Getting a good active stretch on it is how it begins. Is an activated stretch and a regular stretch the same thing? Absolutely not. A regular stretch stretches the muscle belly. An activated stretch also stretches the tendons that connect the muscle to the bone. The attachment sites are often the most troubled areas. The most ischemic areas. This sets up the deep tissue work that comes next. Without the activated stretch I can’t get nearly as deep into the contracted tissue to the depths needed to get release. It’s just too painful and too tight to get in there. Something I consider myself to be very skillful at is finding that area of the contracted tissue - the lynch pin so to speak. I’m good at finding and applying the correct pressure to get that contracted or adhered tissue to release. And I always know when the release is happening because the tissue begins to twitch and even convulse. In a big release the tissue does a big jerk and then it softens and is released. For the first time in years probably that tissue is getting blood again and people know when that happens you can feel it.

Once a contraction is released and any surrounding adhesions are broken apart and released the slackened tissue will begin to reanimate all on its own.

I focus on releasing contractions and adhesions. Slackened fibers or entire muscles will begin to come back to life on their own. Nerve impingements are the same concept - get blood into the tight ischemic tissue that has become like a vice grip squeezing the nerve and the pain will go away.

My job is to alleviate the shackles binding you to your pain. I have developed some very effective techniques to do this. The work alone helps bring awareness back into the body but I also coach you along the way offering structural analysis, usage analysis and effective stretching techniques to be used at home. I will help you recognize bad habits and patterns - recognition is the first step and a huge part in the process to making a full recovery. By combing activated stretching, precise deep tissue therapy and awareness coaching I have been able to help a lot of people out of pain.

The client has a job to do.

This is a participatory process. We’re not only fully engaged during the sessions but we are also making a priority in our life - A commitment to building awareness in our bodies and how we are using them. We have spent years avoiding our pain and have formed some bad habits around it. We naturally learn to compensate for our pain by moving differently. This works for a time but eventually creates even more problems by creating incorrect mobility patterns and usage. One of the biggest things the client must learn to overcome is their habits around gripping. Gripping is anytime a muscle is activated unnecessarily and is extremely common in most people and is always present around areas of tightness and pain. It may take a thousand times catching yourself in the act of gripping to finally overcome it. These are extremely ingrained old habits and must be overcome to make a full recovery. It is a priority and a daily process. Not me nor anyone else can do this for someone.
